~The GREAT State Fair~
Every year, I attend the State Fair. I love everything about it, even though I
don't care for the world famous corny dogs.
I do like the nutty ice cream bars the best.
This year,
Handsome and I hit what we consider the highlights. First up, the automobile
show where we tested the new Jeeps because Jeeps are my favorite drive. Upon
exiting that building, we moseyed over to Big Tex, the icon of the Fair. Last
year, he literally flamed out. Devotees of his were so upset. Would Tex come back? When? No worries. Tex
was rebuilt and debuted this year in record-breaking time. Here he is:
A must-see
for me is the Creative Arts building. The display cases are full of entries.
One wall is lined with photography. Next to that one are the canned goods. On
this day, the judges were tasting cakes. This photo is of my friend's prize
winning felted scarf:
Handsome
munched on his favorite corny dog while we made our way around the midway and
the rides to land in front of the newly renovated Cotton Bowl:
And
ultimately, ended up at Big Tex again. The crowd was even bigger than before. We done all
we wanted to do (in record breaking time. LOL). So home we went.
How about you? Do you
attend a county or state fair in your neck of the woods? What's your favorite highlight?
While hanging out with a diet Coke, Vicki Batman is fondly remembering her grandmother's
first prize for her quilt and the second prize for her crocheted sweater. Vicki's next venture is a holiday story from
MuseItUp Publishing, entitled THE GREAT FRUITCAKE BAKE-OFF, available in November.

Its coming up Thanksgiving here in Canada and in my area that 'means the Rockton Worlds Fair (not nearly as big as the name implies) but we have not missed one in many, many years. Our family favourite is the Heavy Horse show. We are partial to these big beasts of whatever breed they are.
and food atthe fair just tates better. Thats what we do.

The Illinois State Fair in Springfield, August 11, 1961, was where I had my first date with the man I married 3 1/2 months later, on the 18th of November.
A lot of wonderful memories were made then, but we never did attend another one. Our children like the local fairs in our area.
I've never tasted fried pumpkin pie, but it sure sounds yummy.
Hi, Dory! A World's Fair!!! that sounds awesome. And I would love to see the heavy horse show. I'm guessing something along the Clydsdales? Love it!!!
Hi, Leona! How utterly romantic to go on a date with your future hubby to the fair. I did too only mine was about six months later and my cast had come off a few days earlier. Yep, it hurt, but so worth it to be with him.
Handsome said friend pumpkin pie tasted like a fried pie. lol
I l-o-v-e nutty ice cream bars! Enjoy, and have one for me!!
The Michigan State Fair was held in August in Novi, Michigan at a local "showplace" not even a farm! It was strange for it to be there but considering that the fair wasn't even in existence the previous year due to Detroit selling off the property...I'm glad to have the party back but the venue could have used some thinking!
