New Manuscript Woes: something's not right #Rssos #MFRWorg #amwriting #writingtips

Writing & Book

Like most writers, after one project has been edited and I'm waiting for the release, I begin a new project and in this case, it's on Temporarily Out of Luck.

Often times, writer friends will say they had to chuck the first chapter or take out so many words. In my case, I haven't had to erase anything, but rather, rearrange. For a long time I couldn't put my finger on why the last third of what I'd written didn't seem right. Then it came to me! Some parts are out of sequence. I had two choices:

1 - Leave as is and try and fix.

or

2 - Move and hope that fixes my problem.

Yesterday, I went with "Move."

I thought I could dive in and make the writing sing from there. But the magic wasn't happening. So instead of throwing up my hands in dismay, I went with start from the beginning and revise as I went. And ultimately, I believe this will be best. I think the timing will lodge in my head and all will be clearer in the long run. And the parts I need to add will fall into place - *crossing fingers*.

If you're a writer, what causes you to toss your hands in the air?

If you're a reader, what makes you throw a book at the wall?

Lordy, how Temporarily Insane drove me crazy when I wrote it. But it's Finished!!! and now available in ebook and paperback. In fact, it's on a huge blog tour. Check on the right for a list where we're appearing.

Or find Temporarily Insane at: Amazon  TWRP

Writer: Staring at a blank screen because I'm unable to find the words; Reader: when I don't like the characters. Advice from my cousin (sometimes it works; other times it doesn't), "take a deep breath, count to ten, and exhale."

Hi, Angela! Yep, those elusive words. Drives me crazy. And sometimes, I have to walk away. But that can be for the best because, usually, I'm thinking of my work and then bingo! An idea or phrase jumps in my head and I have to scribble it down because it's perfect.

Ha ha, welcome to my writing world, Vicki! The story never comes out of my brain the way it should. Three-quarters of the juicy bits show up prior to the midpoint. It's only when I'm working on the second and third drafts that the story sequence begins to fall into place. It's why I love writing programs like The Write Way and Scrivener. I can rearrange whole chapters at a drag and a drop. :)

Hi, Sheila! I rarely have had to change around like this. Usually a paragraph or two and it's always for the better. I think this book is just going to give me fits. LOL

I'm a write from the beginning to the end so about the middle, I get frustrated. I know where the end is going but getting there is a trip sometimes.
