To Donut or Not? The dilemma #breakfastfood #RLFblog #MFRWorg #tastytreat

Did you know I’m a donut fiend? I LOVE them. A Lot. I especially love cake and buttermilk cake ones the best. I even like the small powdered sugared ones. (Big confession: Handsome and I pick these up as we head back from vacation. He has coffee. I have milk. LOL)

But I’ve learned over the years not to eat them too often because of additional poundage in areas I don’t need additional poundage.
As time has passed and my kiddoes have grown and moved into their own lives, there isn’t anything I really need. No jewelry. No fancy dinners.
But what I really enjoyed and cherished most of all: a walk on a Sunday morning to our local donut shop.

Some years, this is easier to do than others. Kiddoes have plans. Handsome and I might be traveling. Or we have icky weather. But when the beautiful collision of people and time happens, we chat and ramble our way to our favorite destination.

After our Mother’s Day trip this year and the kids had gone, I turned to Handsome and said, “This is what I want every year. For my birthday. For Valentine’s Day. For Mother’s Day. A walk on Sunday morning for donuts.”
He said, “Me, too.”
By the way, my heroine from "Raving Beauty," featured in Just You and Me boxed set, has a huge affinity for Dee's Delicious Donuts. hehehe

That's so romantic (I mean the walk with Handsome; not the donuts)!

Hi, Angela! After he was diagnosed with cancer eleven years ago, we began walking every Sunday before church. Just time alone as he does travel a lot. Besides, we need it!

Love this post, Vicki! I vote "To Donut," especially when it involves time with a loved one. I'll take a maple glazed, please. To donuts and super sweet romance. Cheers!

Vicki, if doughnut gene was traceable, we may prove to be related. I grew up and continue to blossom on Krispy Kreme's. Dunkin's will do in a pinch, but if I am near a KK, I hit the drive through. In fact, I feature my own version of a KK in my book. Like your real life walks, my MC walks with her beloved to the local cafe on Sunday morning just for a tray of delicious Citrus Bites. One last thing I need to mention--doughnuts, not donuts:) KK's are doughnuts and DD's are donuts. KK's win. How about you?

I'm jealous that you are within walking distance to a donut shop! We always take the powder donuts when we are on vacation in the trailer. It's a perfect morning pick me up!

Hi, J M! LOL. Love your vote. And yumm for maple glazed.

Hi, Liz! I've eaten my fair share of KK and they can be a little sweet for me. I just love watching them being made. I know the name was shortened to donuts and most shops around here use donuts because of signage. I'll eat them either way. LOL

Love this post! I also love donuts and live a short walk away from Tim Hortons (famous Canadian coffee shop). Enjoy your Sunday walks! :)

Hi, Joanne! I've heard of Tim Horton's but never been to one and I'm guessing they have donuts??? Thank you. I wish lots of us could go every Sunday.

I LOVE plain, glazed donuts. 2nd favorite - lemon or berry filled and 3rd cake....love the white powdered too.

Funny story...when my granddaughter was little, her paw paw would bring white-powdered to her when he came home from the coffee shop or hunting or wherever he'd been. One day he brought home a real donut....she wrinkled her nose, shook her head and said, "'dat's not a donut" LOL!!

Love that book cover.
Good luck and God's blessings

Hi, Pam! I love most donuts too. Even the white cake brand. YOUR story is so much fun. I can't wait to spoil some little one some day. Hugs!

I'm one of the jelly donut fiends. Also adore Krispy Kremes. Look, we have to have some treats once in a while, right?

Vicki Batman, sassy writer said...

Hi, Ilona! I haven't had jelly in a while and I think (this is going to sound sorta silly) it's because they taste too sweet. Krispy Kremes are yummy especially right off the conveyor belt. I wonder if they give one away when the light is on?

Treats every now and again are a must! Life without a treat is sad

I love your story of family time over donuts--and just the fact you love donuts! (So do I, unfortunately for my non-diet.) What wonderful memories you create over your favorite treat.

Hi, Barbara! We could just as easily gone for a milkshake and sometimes, they do coffee. But donuts are a treat we don't have often and more importantly, I truly cherish the time together.
