Happy Fourth of July! #fireworks #picnic #backyardbarbecue

One of my favorite days as our nation celebrates our country's independence. Several years ago for our anniversary, Handsome and I went on a Mediterranean cruise. One stop was in Malta and as we exited a church, fireworks exploded overhead. A fellow passenger asked the guide what the fireworks were for and he said, "For the U.S. Our country has never forgotten what your country did for us in WW2."

Handsome and I shared a look and mine was definitely teary.

Long may she wave.

Thank you, Angela! I'm going to a neighbor's who has perfect view of the parade and he makes homemade gelato! I can see fireworks from my house, too.

Hi, Melissa~ You know, you never know, especially what other people think. We also heard from a resident of Sardinia about how grateful the country was for the U S liberating it. They were starving.

Having lived abroad, I've had the opportunity to celebrate the holiday in various countries. In Russia, I went to one organized by the American Chamber of Commerce. They had to get special permission from the Moscow City government because it gets dark so late in the summer (not quite "white nights," but after 10 pm) to set off a fireworks display. Kind of boggled the mind to witness a US holiday in Moscow....

Happy Fourth to one and all--wherever you are!

Hi, Liese! Now, that's very interesting to know and I would definitely have been mind-boggled too. Thanks for sharing.

What a great memory and touching tribute!

Was that on a specific date (our Independence Day? theirs?) or just something they do regularly?

Hi, Barbara! It was on our fourth of July and I am guessing they do regularly.
