When growing up, all the men in my families fought in WW2. They didn't talk much about it. I knew one was in a gun turret, one on ski patrol in Italy, my dad worked with aircraft and drones in the Navy. Movies about wars may sometimes glorify what happened. But the truth is those who serve are heroes.
Unbroken is a WW2 movie, produced and directed by Angelina Jolie, and based on the 2010 non-fiction book Unbroken. The film revolves around the life of USA Olympian Louis Zamperini, survived in a raft for 47 days after his bomber was downed, and was sent to a series of prisoner of war camps. Zamperini died on July 2, 2014 at the age of 97.
My thoughts: OMG. How anyone survived-shaking head. It's hard and true and gritty. I was never bored. I sobbed.
After seeing Saving Private Ryan, I said to my young sons they needed to remember the sacrifices their family made for all. I worry that people nowadays as we move further and further from that time period will not remember. But we should. Every war and every person in war should be remembered and thanked.

Yes, I must admit I watch most war movies and intend to see Unbroken. The story is such that I can't not see it.
I would also like to mention that I watched the few war movies done about Vietnam ... those are the soldiers that we conveniently swept under the rug.
Remember them all. Our parent's who fought for us, our brothers, our nephews and someone's son who is out there today in harm's way. Thanks :)

I couldn't do a TCM war movie marathon, but there are some -- those with more of a human interest angle -- that I've watched. Saving Private Ryan is one of them, and also Denzel Washington's Glory.
I cry when I watch a lot of war movies especially We Were Soldiers. The impact these movies have on our youth is what inspires them to enlist. My heart goes out to all families with active members in the military. I recently watched American Sniper and was greatly moved by the life he led during and after active duty.

I can't watch war movies. I watched a lot with my dad growing up, but the older I get the more I value human life and well...these men and women sacrifice so much for all of us. The images from the film stay with me long after the movie is over and I just don't want those images in my brain. So I give them all the respect, but I can't watch the films. I just can't without waking up and seeing the blood and the torture. Can't do it. I'm a wimp.
