@VickiBatman: Finding Your Oasis

Today, I went to yoga. I'd arrived early and sprinkles were beginning to fall--a nice treat for July.

I gathered my mat and bag and walked to the door where there was a protective awning. My stuff plopped to the floor and I dropped to my bottom, resting my back against my bag and just looked.

Did I say my class is held at an old building near a lake? Totally ideal.

The birds flew around to find shelter from the rain. I got to study how they folded themselves for flying and landing. A mockingbird chased another species off. I saw two green parrots fly over the trees. Ants crawled around my legs. The sprinkles increased and the pattering sounds pinged on the boathouse's metal roof.

A truck drove by which is remarkable because this street isn't a drive through. Its engine rumble sliced the sounds of nature for a moment and slowly, faded away.

Truly a wonderful morning.

Do you have those oasis moments where you can sit and observe?

Good morning, Vicki. Must be something about rain. The other evening I was rather stressed and walked out back on the patio. Gray sky and the rain was peppering down. For a few minutes, nobody found me and I sat and just enjoyed the peace. And the rain. And the two dueling hummingbirds. We all need to slow down and let more of those moments happen.

The beach at sunrise or sunset.

I find those moments rare but I love them. Thanks for sharing yours.

Hi, Pam: You may be right about the rain. And being alone. No one about. Sometimes, I go to the back breezeway steps and sit with the dogs, just watching, listening.

Hi, Melissa: You are so right about the beach--the sand, the rhythm of the waves, the playing light. Good one.

A wonderful moment out of time to recharge batteries. Because I meditate on a daily basis for 30 to 40 minutes out by the pool, I have these golden moments. My meditation time is in the evening. The sounds of frogs, crickets grinding their evening serenade and the occasional hoot of an owl are the sound that reach me.

Sounds amazing, Vicki.

Not enough of them - for me the stop and breathe and just b moments are whenever I can curl my toes into a sandy beach. Love the smell of the ocean and the sound of the gulls. I do some of my best writing by the water- and reading too!! LOL.

Hi, Rayne: I just did chivasena (sp?) in yoga and fell asleep. The soft jazz music, the early sunlight streaking the floor. Just for an instant, but I was gone. Loved it.

Hi, Barb Han! Yes, a special moment. Have you had yours lately?

Hi, Chris! Does seem the beach is restful.

I don't do this enough. Thanks for the reminder.

Like Janie, I don't relax enough either! Thanks! I think I'm going to take a deep breath and just be for a bit!

Hi, Janie! It's cool just to take a moment, find a spot and sit and listen. Do nothing. Look at what's going on. Then maybe write it down.

Hi, Lani! I know I don't do it enough but because I wrote this post, I sat with my doggies twice today and we watched a mockingbird swoop in. thanks.

I can sit on the New Jersey shore boardwalk for hours and "people watch."

Sounds like a wonderful morning. I like to sit on my side porch in the summer and listen to the cicadas and watch the birds.
