Sometimes, summer television movies lacks. But I usually find a good old one on Turner Classics. Recently, I watched Cat Ballou.
- #Movie Mom -
It stars Lee Marvin in two roles for which he won an Academy Award (check out the horse scene) and Jane Fonda when she mostly played ingenues.
Blurb: When schoolteacher Cat Ballou returns to her hometown to find powerful men want the family ranch's water rights and murders her father, she turns to the famous gunslinger, Kid Shelleen, for help.
There are some fun touches--in the opening credits, the torch lady turns into a gunslinger. Stubby Kaye and Nat King Cole (what a singer!) sing songs throughout the movie. And the railroad mail guy who steadfastly refuses to hand over the cash, thwarting the wannabe robbers for a bit.
Why I watched this film? One name: Lee Marvin. It's a comedy, he has two roles and truly embodies each. Well done!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you ....
That is so funny, Bailey Stewart! You are a fan of this movie too!!! Lee Marvin was the best in this movie. Rare anyone won an Oscar for a comedy.
Hands down my favorite Lee Marvin role(s). He's always so tough and gruff - and often a military figure - but he has serious comedy chops and great timing. "I smell a water hole!"
Hi, Renee! You are right about Mr. Marvin's other roles; so it is so nice to see him in this one. It's great that you appreciate it as much as I (and Bailey) do. Thanks for posting.
I, too, enjoyed this movie -- I always felt Lee Marvin owed part of his Oscar win to that horse!
She has the smile of an angel...
Hi, Angela! and I think you are right. He was brilliant in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Pure evil.
