I Have Big-time Holiday Spirit!
I love the holidays. As I’m writing this, I’m preparing
for a special trip with girlfriends to a small town for the Candlelight Home
Tour. The historic homes are decorated, great meals, lots of laughs.
As we journey to our destination, we stop at a huge
flea market. Here is where I truly indulge for you see I love adore ADORE!!
vintage holiday decorations. I especially collect beaded satin ornaments and
sequined felted table runners and tree skirts. Here’s a sample of what I found
this year:
I
found this recently:
And let’s not forget the Christmas tree. In my house,
we have a real Fraser fir. The end is cut for sap, the whole thing is washed
for pollen and dust.
Last night during the Grinch, #2 son and I added the
new LED lights. I really-really like them. I also mixed things up a bit and put
the satin beaded ornaments on the tree. Around the star, I stuck gold twigs.
Throughout the branches, I added floral sprays. How did I do?
Note: I
don’t pretend to be a professional. LOL
Most importantly, I need to remember the holidays are
about family and friends. This year, my family dynamics changed dramatically—my
parents, nephew, and my old cat passed. Thanksgiving was weird and I’m sure
Christmas will be without them too.
So
are you into vintage ornaments, new mod ones, on something your child has made?

This year is a bit different as we have a new kitten. I bought shatterproof ornaments, which she has knocked off repeatedly! Her and the dog work in tandem though...he knocks them off with his tail and then she bats them around the room! Ha ha...it would be really funny if it happened to someone else!
We have some special ornaments that will not be going up this year because I don't want them broken...my sister made one for us many years ago and, of course, there are the 'first Christmas' ones of my kids and grand kids. I have a lot that are special to me for many reasons. My husband has 1 that was his from when he was a child. Back then they had a tree at school and all the kids brought 1 to hang on it and he took this 1 every year. I have a few other handmade ones that mean a lot to me.
So sorry for all your losses, Vicki. I think the tradition of the holidays helps to keep those we've lost a little closer in our hearts. God bless and I LOVE your vintage ornaments!! I wish I lived closer so I could go to these sales with you :)
I love holiday home tours! Wish I were with you and your friends!!
Hi, Cathy! I am so missing a kitty this year and am very envious. I have a snow man my mom made for me to take to school in fourth grade. A doggy chewed on the back of his head and I was very upset. Can't do anything about it. :)
Hi, Jacquie! Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. I wish you were here too. I have to report that I only found three and they weren't exactly what I was searching for. Sigh.
Hi, Angela! The tour was fabulous. There was a car museum on the tour this year. Wonderful stuff. And yes, I age too much. Back to starvation. Hugs!
