I'm #crafting for me - #needlepoint pillows ! #MFRWorg #RLFblog #decorating

Crafty gal

Last fall, I was perusing a stitchery catalog and ran across two simple pillows to stitch in bargello. The kits came with yarn, albeit acrylic which is okay as sometimes, wool makes my eyes itch. I'd been wanting to try something like this and determined the colors would look wonderful in my family room. Here's what I began with:

This triangle pattern went so quickly. I finished and here she is:

Then I moved on to this beauty (shown before finished):

I had so much trouble with this one. The canvas was printed and didn't exactly start on the right spot. I did several rows and was a bit troubled as I had to count. Once the rhythm of the counting felt comfortable, I was able to continue with little trouble. Here is the final fabrication:
I love how the coral in each pillow gives a pop of color to the room.

What kind of crafting projects are you working on right now?

Your pillows are stunning! I used to do counted cross stitch all the time, some might say ad nauseum, hehe. For a few years now I've had the knitting bug- sweaters for all my boys, hats for all my boys, socks for all my boys. With quite a few sweaters for myself thrown in, too. I find it relaxing whilst watching TV, or listening to a radio program. And it keeps my fingers busy so I'm less inclined to reach for a snack.

Funny that you should ask, Vicki. I am working on crochet throw pillows :)

I love your pillows, the designs and the splashes of colors. I am sure they are a wonderful addition to your home decor.

The best advantage to crafting is how it settles our minds. When the hands are busy, the mind rests :)

Hi, Luanna! and thank you for commenting today. I admire that you can cross stitch! It crosses my eyes. I agree that handiwork is the perfect accompaniment to TV. Good diet tip too. LOL

Hi, Florence! I would love to see your crocheted pillows. Will they be in your ETSY shop? You are right how crafting settles our minds. The rhythm and flow does reset our brains and you know, I sometimes get a brilliant idea for a story too. Hugs!

Your pillows are awesome! I wish I had that talent.

Hi, Angela! I taught myself to needlepoint with the stitch n zip kits. A couple of years later, I took a class on fancy stitches, but haven't really used them. I was confident I could do the bargello stitch, though. Hugs, hon.

Amazing job! I love the colors! I'm not doing anything extra creative now except writing. No time :(

Hi, Melissa! Writing is soo creative, but my brain goes no more and at the end of the day, I have to wind down with my needlepoint. I do think writing. lol

Hi, Vicki,
I have a needlepoint picture that I am doing "periodically" along with crocheting and knitting. If I ever get my "stash" to a place where I can go through it, I have enough projects to last me until I pass. I enjoy doing all types of needlework.

Hi, Shirla! I love you have a stash, as do I. I could embroider cuptowels, pillowcases, needlepoint 3 purses, 5 stitch n zips, etc. I like having a stash, but want to get to them soon!

Happy stitching!!

I picked up my 80's cross-X materials 2 years ago and am creating gifts like crazy. I had needles, thread, patterns, & hoops. I did have to go buy fresh material though as the old stuff was marked with creases. Have been finding lots of pattern books at thrift shops and Ebay now.

Hi, Moon Pie! So glad you found me here and share a passion for stitching. I love to look for vintage finds too. I just bought a book for initials for the tea towel I am embroidering. Awk! the French knots.

Have a wonderful weekend.
