Found Object, and it's all Mine! #vintagepostcard #oldromance #bookshelves
Over the weekend, I tried to plow my way through the book club selection, but no. It didn't interest me. I found the memoir rather whiny; therefore, I couldn't relate. And on that Sunday, I began the prep for the colonoscopy on Monday. (Feel free to say ick with me.)
I wanted something more enjoyable to read. So I went to my bookshelves and picked a romance from the author my mom introduced me to at age fourteen--Emilie Loring.
The books aren't too long and I finished pretty quickly (especially because I was up until midnight). I selected another one and as I dived in, a postcard fell out.
What a fabulous surprise. This postcard is dated November 21, 1910. On the front, are two turkeys, Thanksgiving Greetings, an eagle, flowers, fruit and other animals. On the flipside is a one cent stamp. The card was printed in Germany.
Here's what is written in pencil:
Dear Friend, How are you getting along thinking of you every day. I enjoyed my visit very much. I would like to here (sp) from you. From <can't read name>
At first, I thought I'd purchased the card because I do have a small collection. But I would never leave it in a book. I have a box I put mine in.
I decided to go with a found object. Several years ago, Handsome asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I said all of Emilie's books in hardback. I had a few and many in paperback. I gave him a list and on Christmas morning, there the books were. I was thrilled.
Yes, I'm thinking a found object. Isn't that lovely?
Has this ever happened to you?
Temporarily Insane. Where dead bodies turn up at an accounting firm. Not so good.

I purchase rarer books on a regular basis (for my research on Victorian England). I recently came across a list someone had made with page numbers on it, but I don't recall such a find as yours!
How fun!
Best,
Liese
Hi Vicki, What a lovely find! Whenever something unusual comes my way, I think of it as a God nudge or God wink. Enjoy!
Hi, Liese. I've found receipts before and they are so interesting. I added the postcard to my box. Hugs
Hi, Joanne! That's a great way to think of this find. I'm going to use your phrases more often. Hugs!!
What a wonderful surprise. I love the idea of a found object! And sometimes the universe gives us a blessing we didn't know we needed!
Hi, Melissa! That is the truth about the universe. I've done this before and now, I'm redoubling my efforts--I put birthday cards in books I read. Now, they are treasured for always. Hugs!!
Oh, my gosh, Vicki! My mother had all over Emily Loring's books. I read them as a teenager and a young mom trying to keep my head above water with two young girls. Loved her books. It was such a kick to read her name and made a nice connection between us. Hope you survived the prep time for the C thing and got a good result. I've shared. :)
Hi, Marsha! My first romance was an Emilie Loring. Handsome gifted me with first editions for Christmas a few years back. I love them, too. Like I said, because of the C test, I wanted something light to read and reached into this collection. I started with number one and am going on. Got excellent for the C thing! Thanks for asking. Hugs!
What a fun treasure to find!
Cute post!
Hi, Kathleen! A postcard is the perfect bookmark-isn't it? Glad you stopped by. ox
Wow...how wonderful! Definitely a treasure
Good luck and God's blessings

Hi, Pam! It is a treasure. And one I will always remember fondly. Hugs!
Hi Vicki! How cool! No, I've never had anything like that happen, but it's pretty neat it happened to you!
Hi, Karilyn! I love this. And like I said, I'm putting cards in books. Great bookmarks. lol
I've found books at antique stores with all kinds of papers and pressed flowers inside. Looks like you have a real gem!
Hi, Ilona! Pressed flowers would be a loverly find. I haven't found any in my old books, though. Rats. Hugs!!!
How cool! Reading certainly does enrich our lives, and in this case it came with a beautiful bonus surprise.
Hi, Shelley! I do feel enriched and am now looking for other things in my older books. I founds a special insert to order books by other romance authors of that era. Worth investigating! Thank you for stopping by.
