#HandbagMonday ~ What's in your closet @VickiBatman? All I say is "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps"

*handbag monday*
One of my favorite workouts is at Jazzercise. The routines are intense, the friends are awesome, and the teacher is motivating.

So imagine my surprise when a routine featured a duet with the hunky Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli, and an American pop singer based on an oldie but goodie. The teacher didn't know the song; so I volunteered, "'Perhaps,' sung by Doris Day. It's featured in the movie, 'Simply Ballroom'."

A friend came over to me and asked, "Don't you have a handbag with Doris on it?"

"I do! An album bag."

"I thought so. You need to carry it."

She was right. Here is my Doris Day bag:

What is interesting is this bag is made from an album cover. Cool-right? I found it at a craft fair one Christmas. I had already purchased a Frosty the Snowman album bag from the same vendor and hoped to find one I could carry year round.

I paid less than $30.00. The album is laminated on both sides and sewn with coordinating fabric. Yellow daisy trim decorates the back. The handles are ball chain and when I bought it, were adjustable, but I trimmed for a smaller tote handle.

I always-always-always get compliments on my album bags. They are great fun and not what's found in the stores nowadays.

Here's a YouTube video of Doris Day singing "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUVT1NZtZPo

Have you purchased handbags from places other than department stores?

I am a one-purse-at-a-time lady but I do so love a good handbag. I currently carry a sling-over-the-shoulder bag that looks like a cross between a tabby cat and a raccoon. It is NOT made of real fur. People stop me on a daily basis wondering what it is and both men and women make comments. It's fun. I call her Harriet.

I don't have near as many bags as I used to - Mostly I carry one brown or black for winter and a light color for summer

but some days it would just be nice to ahve a fun purse- A mood booster for the day.

I think if I were to pick an album I'd want to use for a handbag, it might be my Uncle's old LP from the original broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie - :) - then i could sing great tunes all day like Kids, Put on a Happy Face and Got a Lot of Living To Do. LOL.

Hi, Patti! Someday, you will have to show me a pix of that bag. And naming it-what a fun idea! Hugs, sweetie.

Hi, Chris: Bye Bye Birdie would make a great album handbag.

You have the cutest, most original bags!! I am not a handbag carrier. I prefer just to stick my license and credit card and phone in my back pocket and walk around like that. But I do love to admire your handbags!! It's amazing how many different kinds there are out there!

I love your handbags. They are so original and so you. I just got a new one this weekend. A family member is crocheting them and using the tabs from the tops of soda cans. I'll have to carry it to DARA, so that you can see it. She does them in different colors and my Mom bought me one in red and black. So glad to be home. Isn't this the wedding week for your son?

Yep, Vicki, I have to agree with Sylvia...original all the way.

We'll have to go to that craft fair sometime.

Handbags? I'll the typical one traditional bag at a time, of which I over stuff with EVERYTHING!

Hi, Karilyn! Thank you. I wish I was that minimal, but I'm not, not really. It's okay.

Hi, Sylvia! I can't wait to see yours. Sounds fun, too. Yes, the wedding is this weekend. :)

Hi, Phyllis! You know changing frequently has my cleaning out the not needed stuff. lol

You always have the best stories and best handbags! I think my mom had that album. I loved listening to music that she played and grew to love the 40's, 50's and 60's eras.

Oh that's a great bag! I love Doris Day. I only have a couple bags, but I have a great tote I bought at a concert from one of the guy's wives. On one side it's black with metallic silver in a circular pattern and the other brown and golds in velvet. I should use it more. (Usually save it as a concert tote)

Cute bag, Vicki. I admit to being a huge Doris Day fan. Loved her songs and remember a lot of the words, though generally, I'm not good at that.
Not too into purses (find your use of the term "handbag" interesting. It seems a way older term than you should be using. :)) I used to carry really heavy things--pretty much ruined both shoulders and my posture. Now I stick to something small on a long strap and wear across my body. Safer and spreads out the weight. Thanks for the nice reminder of Doris Day and her music.

Hi, Melissa! What am I listening to right now? Simply Frank. I love the tunes. And thank you for the compliment. I hope people like handbags and my stories. Hugs.

Hi, Lisa! Thank you for visiting with me today. Your bag sounds amazing, even sounding a bit like my friend's in my head. It is probably different, though. It's fun you call it your concert bag. Happy handbags!

Hi, Marsha! Handbag terminology--HMMMM. I'm not into purse, not pocketbook. And when I worked in the buying office, the department was called Accessories and they bought handbags. Sort of a general catch all word because wallets, and all shapes and sizes fit in. So handbag it is. Thanks, sweetie!
