Who's gotta brand new #handbag? and a #newbook? author Maggie Toussaint! #KOD #MFRWorg #RLFblog

Maggie’s got a brand new bag!

Handbag Monday

I’m not one of the women who goes nuts over clothes, but handbags, well, I’m always on the lookout for a good one. The one I have now fits my current needs so perfectly I hope it never gets worn out or destroyed by a leaking pen or a marauding granddog.

The reason I always look for handbags is that the kind I prefer are not plentiful. First, I need a cross-body bag because everything else slides off my shoulders, and I need both hands free for other stuff. I also require a zipper top as I’ve lost several pairs of glasses from them spilling out of purses in restaurants and conferences. To protect the glasses, I have hard shell cases for both the regular glasses and the sunglasses. And then there’s the rest of the stuff that goes in a purse.

So far, everything on my purse check list is for function. With regard to style, I’m less picky, though I am attracted to bright colors. In fact, my favorite colors are red and turquoise, followed by pink and orange. Since I wear those color tops with jeans, I needed something in a purse which was neutral or would go with everything.

I found the perfect bag online, copied the url to my husband, and he snagged it for my birthday. I didn’t realize the canvas fabric was as sturdy or waterproof as it is, but golly, this bag is awesome. I wear it everywhere I go, and it’s so nice having everything I need in a bag that’s just the right size. You won’t find me on a fashion runway because I’m too busy doing other stuff!

Speaking of other stuff, have you checked out my new science fiction release? G-1 is the first book in my Guardian of Earth series.

A scientist unravels the vanishing water mystery at great cost to himself.

Thanks for having me here today, Vicki! I'm delighted to be able to talk about purses. Maybe there will be other cross-body purse lovers who swing by and we could form an association??? You just never know.

Hi, Maggie! I would have been in your association when my boys were younger as that is the kind of bag I wore until I didn't have to carry so much stuff. lol

Too funny, Vicki! I used to think I was very low maintenance, but my husband assures me that is not the case, LOL! I have "stuff" requirements. Some people think I'm like McGyver (spelling?) but I just like to have the stuff I need.

OOO, the book cover looks great! I'm going to have to go to Amazon and check it out to find out more about it! Yay!

Hi, Red! I love bright colors, as you can tell from my purse and book cover! I hope you do go check out the book at Amazon. Please click on the "Look Inside" feature for a sample of the book.

Best wishes!

Lovely purse, Maggie! I'm addicted to purses, and own tons, but the funny thing is I hardly ever change purses when I go out. It's usually too much bother.

Hi, Morgan! It's easy to change if you use pouches, like makeup, wallet, sunglasses. There's 3 easy things to move over. Thanks for posting.

The perfect purse...handbag, etc. I used to carry large purses, always with a shoulder strap because I was a teacher. My hands and arms were always full of stuff. Plus when I shopped, I thought I needed all the bits of flotsam that was in the purse.
Then I began to have trouble with that should--from carrying that big heavy purse.
I switched to very small purses and no one believes I have everything I need inside that tiny purse--even a small Swiss Army Knife that is invaluable.
Your new novel and genre, as you know kind of shocked me--because I did not know your had a desire to write science fiction--notice I always write out those two words. I learned long ago these authors do not want to be called Sci-Fi authors. Do you care? Just wondering.

Hi Morgan and Celia,

I haven't thought about pouches, which Vicki mentioned, but that would simplify a lot of things. I usually wear a purse until I'm sick and tired of it, then switch to an older one until I find the "new' one I want to acquire.

Celia, I can see you having a small bag- your shoulders look even thinner than mine! I don't have a swiss army knife in my purse, but that sounds like it would be quite handy. I'll see about getting one, though I would then have to remember to take it out before I flew.

Oh Celia! My girlfriend carried a Brighton bag filled to the brim and she began having shoulder issues. The things she had in it! I said, can't you put some of that in your car in a basket? She did and got a new handbag!

I have a Longchamps backpack that I just love, too.

Vicki,

Do you have a site that you recommend for the pouches? I would like to look into them.

Thanks for your kind words, Florence! My kids wish I would follow the dictates of fashion so I didn't look like the Crayola coloring box, but I love the bright tones. I hope you'll continue to check out my work and that we will connect on other social media.

I'd like to have a large canvas bag or a backpack with that same colorful pattern!

Maggie Toussaint said...

Hi Angela,

I'd love to have a matching backpack or a tote in this fabric too. Far as I know, this company doesn't make those. Drat!

Thank you for stopping in and leaving a comment. You're the best!

My husband gets my purse too. I am not hip enough for him but I am needy about what can fit into my bag. Of course, there's those days when hubby likes to throw in his small tablet! I don't wear the cross-body purses because I wear big coats and the purses are too small for the coat. When you live in Michigan and must stand outside with children for recess and such...having a purse that doesn't bunch up your coat is a must! All the best! I love the cover of your book.

maggie: i stitched a needlepoint small cosmetic bag, a not so big wallet, sunglass pouch its kinda like collecting like things and i only carry what i reAlly need

Thank you, Melissa Keir! You're a gem to stand outside in the cold with kids at recess.

You're a woman after my own heart, Vicki. The home-crafted pouches sound like an excellent idea.

Maggie, I love a cross the body bag. I often wear mine purse like that. I also have a shoulder bag. Both are Douney Burke and my husband got them for me. I'm not one for a purse or brand name. I just need it to hold up against all the abuse it's going to get!
