This handbag comes from Turkey. My husband had a special business trip to Georgia (the country, not the state), and because there were no direct flights, we chose to stay a few days in Istanbul, Turkey on the way. I’d been to Antalya (a beach area) but had never been to Istanbul. We stayed near the older part of the city and were in walking distance of the Grand Bazaar, which dates back to the 1400s. It is the oldest covered market in the world, and up to 400,000 guests visit each day (in regular times). You can find EVERYTHING there—from Turkish Delight candy to gems and jewelry. Also, PURSES (Vicki would faint at the selection). This particular purse has a tapestry motif, so common in that part of the world.
We truly enjoyed our time in the city, finding those we met very open and friendly, and were sorry we couldn’t spend a little more time to see more of this fascinating city. One night, we took a dinner cruise on the Bosphorus Strait (between the European and Asian sides of the country and a link between the Black and Marmara Seas). The guests were extremely diverse, easily noted by the variety of national flags marking each table. A very entertaining evening with quite delicious food.
“Watch Him Fall” in MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories
Volume XXII
Throughout the original
Holmes Canon, there were hints and teases of other intriguing cases – The Giant Rat of Sumatra . . . The Abernetty Tragedy . . . The
Manor House Case. Watson mentions well over one-hundred of
these, which have collectively come to be known as The Untold Cases. Now, once again MX Publishing brings
us sixty-four of these adventures in three simultaneously published volumes,
with all royalties going to support the Stepping Stones School at Undershaw,
one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s former homes.
When Holmes discovers his faithful landlady has lost her investment in the Tasmanian Gold Mining Company, he and Watson spring into action. Threatened with the loss of their beloved 221B Baker Street, they must follow the clues to catch the swindler, who’s on the run with his ill-gotten gains. Can the Great Detective catch the thief, or will all three be living on the streets?
"[Dr.
Sherwood-Fabre] knows her Holmes characterization, and her stories do not
disappoint."

More about Liese Sherwood-Fabre: Award-winning author Dr. Liese Sherwood-Fabre doesn’t remember a time she didn’t know of Sherlock Holmes—be it the old Basel Rathbone movies, Tom and Jerry in deerstalker hats, or the original Conan Doyle tales. During her thirty-plus years as a federal employee, Dr. Sherwood-Fabre worked and lived in various countries, including Mexico and Russia, finding inspiration for stories based on events taking place around her. She garnered a prestigious Pushcart nomination for a short story inspired by her experiences in Mexico, and having lived through the tumultuous years of Russia’s budding democracy, her first published novel, Saving Hope, centered around an unemployed Russian microbiologist who must choose between saving her daughter’s life or working with a former KGB agent to stop the sale of bioweapons to Iran.
After
returning to the states, Dr. Sherwood-Fabre
revived her early interest in Sherlock Holmes and the Victorian period. For the
past six years, she has shared her knowledge with other Sherlockians by
contributing regularly to several society newsletters, as well as the
prestigious Baker Street Journal and Canadian Holmes
publications. Her Sherlock Holmes origin series The Early Case Files of
Sherlock Holmes launched in June 2020, and case one: The Adventure of
the Murdered Midwife is the first-place winner for the CIBA Mystery and
Mayhem award.
